This gin was originally the result of a conversation between Cameron and Jason Williams.
100 years ago, in Florence, a Count walked into a bar and asked for a shot of gin in his Americano. The legend of the Negroni was born.
100 years later, in Australia, Four Pillars Gin remains obsessed with the Negroni’s bittersweet perfection. Which is why we make the world’s only dedicated Negroni gin.
The first thing we did for this centenary year of the Negroni was give our award-winning Spiced Negroni Gin a bold new label, celebrating our love for the Negroni and its Italian heritage.
This gin was created back in 2014 by our distiller Cameron Mackenzie and award-winning bartender Jason Williams. Both were equally obsessed with the Negroni and wanted to make a gin specifically for this classic gin cocktail, to cut through the Campari and vermouth.
Back then Jason was Manager of Sydney bars including The Rook and one of the World’s Top Ten Bartenders. Today he maintains that global accolade as Creative Director of Singapore’s esteemed Atlas Bar.
And so it was, that our Spiced Negroni Gin became our first ever Bartender Series Gin collaboration.
First, we took our base botanicals and upped the amount of Tasmanian pepperberry leaf and cinnamon. Then we added an exotic West African spice called Grains of Paradise. This is one of the most unusual spices in the world, with clove and Sichuan characters. But although very powerful, the spice tends to glow rather than become hot.
We also decided to use some fresh ginger in the pot to elevate all that spice to another level. Finally, we opened up the plates to add weight and intensity to the gin.
Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin is a highly aromatic, rich and (yes) spicy gin with great power and intensity.
We're pleased to announce our Spiced Negroni Gin has been awarded Master status at the Global Gin Masters two years in a row (2017 and 2018), and Gold at the Stuttgart International Spirits Competition in 2018 and the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2016.
